CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Be weather aware later today as Accuweather and the National Weather Service say scattered severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and potentially a tornado or two are possible this afternoon into this evening… mainly across central Virginia and the central Shenandoah Valley.
Accuweather’s Jeff Nordeen says storms move in around 4 to 5pm ahead of the main event, with the heavier activity behind in West Virginia. Nordeen says the heavy activity moves into our area around 7 or 8pm.
Nordeen says the main tornado threat remains to the south of us, but he cannot rule out the possibility around here. The larger threat here is straight-line winds 65-to-75mph in severe storms, which is more than enough to cause damage and power outages.
