CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW/AP) – U.S. Senator Mark Warner is reportedly considering asking President Joe Biden not to seek re-election in 2024. According to sources cited by The Washington Post, Warner reached out to fellow senators earlier this week to discuss whether to ask Biden to exit the race, according to two people familiar with the effort who requested anonymity to talk about private conversations. The Virginia Democrat’s moves are notable given his role as chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and as a lawmaker who has supported Biden in the past. The report comes as some Democrats have pushed the party to explore alternative candidates. The White House has not yet responded to these reports.

Meanwhile Biden addressed concerns about his reelection campaign during a rally in Wisconsin, declaring, “I’m staying in the race.” Speaking to around 300 supporters at a middle school, Biden discussed his debate performance last week, admitting, “I can’t say it was my best performance.” Despite speculation, he reaffirmed his candidacy, stating, “I am running, and I’m going to win again.” Biden added, “I beat Donald Trump. I will beat him again,” as the crowd cheered and waved campaign signs.
