Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Rob Schilling, host of “The Schilling Show,” joined Charlottesville Right Now to discuss several pressing local issues, including a contentious parking agreement and a significant land acquisition by the city.
One of the key topics discussed was the amended agreement between the City of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Parking Center (CPC), where the city will now pay $1.8 million annually for the ground lease under the parking garage. Schilling, a former City Council member, criticized the deal, stating, “It looks like a really bad deal, and it looks like Mark Brown gave a little bit just to be a nice guy, but he didn’t have to. It could have been a lot worse than it is.”
The discussion then shifted to the city’s successful bid to acquire the Carlton Mobile Home Park in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity and other nonprofits. The $8 million acquisition has raised concerns due to the lack of transparency. Schilling pointed out, “This is all very secretive, which I have a big problem with. If the city is committing themselves to funding a project like this, they ought to tell us right up front what is going to be the obligation to the taxpayer.” He questioned the wisdom of such a large expenditure without a clear plan, describing it as “reckless.”
Schilling also touched on the upcoming presidential election and the potential for debates between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, expressing hope for at least one debate if not more.
