NEWPORT NEWS, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Shocking new details in the March 11 special grand jury report that has, in part, led to child neglect charges against an assistant principal at Rich Neck Elementary School in Newport News where a child shot his teacher. The 31-page report released from that city’s Commonwealth’s Attorney says 15 terrified students in the first-grade classroom when the child shot Ruckersville native Abigail Zwerner once. The only thing that kept him from shooting again is the gun jammed due to lack of the child’s strength, and there were 7 more bullets in the chamber. The children ran across the hall to another first-grade classroom where a teacher locked them in.

The report says the principal, and assistant principal Ebony Parker were in the principal’s office with a child and grandmother in a waiting area when the shot was fired. They allegedly closed themselves in the principal’s office, and did not let the child and grandmother in when they knocked. Parker earlier this week was charged with 8 felony child neglect counts.
