CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Reid’s Super-Save Market, a family-owned business that has served the community for decades, will permanently close in the coming weeks. The property at 600 Preston Avenue has been sold to Twice is Nice, a nonprofit resale store, which plans to relocate its operations to the site.“The decision to close and sell was not taken lightly,” said Sue Clements, co-owner of Reid’s, alongside her sister, Kim Miller. “We tried everything, but we just couldn’t make it work. The hardest thing for us is the impact on our employees, who we’ve always thought of as family.”

Twice is Nice will move from its current two storefronts on Preston Avenue, citing space constraints and uncertainty about future development plans. The new location will allow the nonprofit to consolidate its operations into a single, larger store. The relocation is expected to be completed in early 2026, following planned renovations to the Reid’s property.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity,” said Gordon Walker, chairman of the Twice is Nice Board of Directors. “While we are as sad as anyone to see an iconic local business like Reid’s close its doors, we are excited to carry on the Reid’s tradition of serving the surrounding neighborhoods by providing high-quality goods at affordable prices.”

Clements said it they are happy that the property will continue to serve the community. “We always assumed whoever we sold to would tear the building down and put up something new,” she said. “Selling to a nonprofit that is helping the community is a real plus for us.”

Twice is Nice, which has operated for 40 years, raises funds for local nonprofits through the sale of donated clothing, furniture, and household items.
