CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Albemarle County School Board has chosen former probation officer and current UVA Sorensen Center Program Associate and Alumni Coordinator Leslie Pryor to finish out the Rio District term of the late Chuck Pace. Pace, shortly after being elected after serving as the interim when Katrina Callsen departed for the General Assembly, passed away in December leaving the seat vacant. Pryor was chosen among seven candidates, which included Jim Dillenbeck who Pace defeated in November. Her first meeting will be February 13, and she’ll served until the winner of a November election is seated next January. She tells 29News “never say never” when asked if she’ll seek election.
Pryor has not had an association with Albemarle schools, but she says her experience working with youth in her earlier role qualifies her to serve. Her Sorensen biography says “she has extensive experience in the areas of public safety, corrections, mental health services, and the court system”. She told 29News she’s “concerned for children below the poverty line, and making certain everyone is awarded an equitable education”.
