Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Stephen Culp, a urologist with UVA Health, discussed key advancements in prostate cancer screening and treatment on WINA Morning News.
Dr. Culp emphasized the importance of early detection through the PSA blood test, stating, “It’s the PSA blood screening test. We’re catching prostate cancer early before any symptoms typically.” This early detection method significantly improves treatment outcomes, allowing for less invasive interventions.
Dr. Culp also touched on the various treatment options available, from robotic surgery to radiation, ensuring individualized care for each patient. He noted, “We’re using new techniques… to improve continence rates and sexual function rates after surgery.”
With ongoing research into new biomarkers and treatments, UVA continues to lead in prostate cancer care, making strides in both patient outcomes and the future of men’s health.
