CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – President Trump has nominated former Virginia House Republican Leader and former House Speaker Todd Gilbert as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. He was one of two names Virginia’s two Democratic U.S. Senators submitted to the White House… the other being former Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Tracy. Gilbert will step down as a delegate from Shenandoah County, and already Republicans have replaced Gilbert with Gate City Delegate Terry Kilgore as Republican House Leader.

Gilbert is in private practice in Woodstock, and prior to that he’d been a prosecutor for 14 years. He is subject to U.S. Senate confirmation to the office based in the Charlottesville federal court building.
