CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) A local business’s security camera captured Saturday’s shooting near the downtown mall and Charlottesville Police have made significant progress with their investigation, Police chief Michael Kochis on Monday.
Kochis said police have identified vehicles they believe were involved in the shooting, which left a 25-year-old male in critical condition early Saturday morning.
Police are using their Flock Safety license plate reader system to identify the owners of those vehicles.
The victim was struck by gunfire and critically injured in the 200 block of 3rd Street NE, where police found him at approximately 1:26 a.m. Saturday.
Police also located 30 cartridge casings. An unoccupied building and three vehicles were also hit by bullets in the incident.
CPD put out a call for video surveillance from area businesses on East Market Street, 3rd Street NE and Jefferson Street.
