CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — “Pep Banned,” a documentary chronicling the history of the University of Virginia’s famous and at times infamous Pep Band, is set to return to the big screen, this time at the Paramount Theater on March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The film’s next screening will come just over five months after its premiere at the Virginia Film Festival at the Culbreth Theater on UVA Grounds in October. The Paramount will be screening the film in collaboration with the festival, and like its premiere, the event will feature a panel with members of the band and the filmmakers afterward.
“Pep Banned” details the history of the UVA Pep Band, which active from 1974-2003. The film follows executive producer and former Pep Band member Ron Culberson as he pieces together the band’s history, not shying away from its many controversies. Aside from Culberson, the film also features interviews with dozens of other band members and others, including some of the very administrators the band butted heads with over the years.
Tickets for the screening are on sale now at the Paramount’s website.
