UPDATE 7:45AM, 4/16: Albemarle Police say they’re seeking an armed suspect who shot a man in a residence on Pine Haven Court off Rio Road East before also firing at responding officers. Officers were dispatched around 9pm to a report of a larceny after a 9-1-1 caller reported her husband, 53-year old Anthony L. Lee, Sr., had taken her firearm and refused to return it. Police say, upon officer arrival, Lee allegedly first shot at an adult male inside a residence, then fired at responding officers. One of the officers returned fire before the suspect fled into his residence and then escaped on foot. No officers were hurt, but the man inside the residence was transported to UVA with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Police say the victim and Mr. Lee were known to each other, and they believe this is an isolated incident.

After a thorough search, ACPD no longer believes Lee is in that immediate vicinity. Warrants for his arrest have been issued on charges of malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and additional charges are possible. An ACPD release continues:

“Mr. Lee is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Mr. Lee’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. Mr. Lee is described as a 53-year-old Black male with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 5’11” tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red hoodie. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. ACPD is being assisted by the Charlottesville Police Department Virginia State Police, and the United States Marshals Service. ACPD would also like to thank Albemarle County Fire Rescue and VDOT for their swift response.”
