ESMONT, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATED 12PM 5/1/25: Albemarle Police have released the identity for the deceased as 19-year old Ava G. Bright of North Garden. Neither Bright nor the driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Albemarle Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon single vehicle crash that killed one and seriously hurt another in Esmont. The call came in just before 3:30pm in the area of Irish and Chestnut Grove roads where first responders found a vehicle plowed into a tree. While the driver was taken to UVA with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, an adult passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Police don’t know what happened and are investigating along with the department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.
