CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia had to overcome halftime deficits in each of its previous two outings. Tuesday night, against visiting Pittsburgh, it faced no such struggles.

Sam Lewis scored 15 points and Thijs DeRidder added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds as No. 18 UVA built a double-digit halftime lead, then rolled to a comfortable 67-47 win over the scuffling Panthers, who lost for the fifth time in the last six games.

The Cavaliers forced Pitt into a season-high 17 turnovers, which led to 23 points for UVA.

Chance Mallory and Malik Thomas combined for 15 first-half points as Virginia went to the locker room ahead 33-20.

Mallory finished with 11 and Thomas had 10.

UVA broke out of its 3-point shooting slump in the second half.

Through its first 14 games of the season, UVA shot 37.6% from 3-point range. But over the last seven games, before Tuesday, the Cavaliers were connecting on just 32.3% of its attempts beyond the arc.

In the first half, things were even worse. They went 4 for 14 from distance, with sharpshooter Jacari White missing all four of his attempts. But in the second half, UVA heated up. It went 7 for 17 from 3, led by Sam Lewis, who hit three of his four 3-pointers after the break.
