DOSWELL, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Kings Dominion in Doswell has received approval to build a large-scale steel rollercoaster. Hanover County has given the park its blessing to build on the site that once housed Volcano: The Blast Coaster, which closed in 2019 due to repeated mechanical failures. The project, according to the permits submitted to the county in December, goes by the secretive moniker of “Amendment 47.”

Designs released to the public indicate four buildings included in the permit: the station building for the coaster, an electrical house, a maintenance facility, and a commercial building. The plans also show a building labeled “Research Center,” along with the ride’s queue and the supports for the coaster track.

Internet speculation about the model of the coaster commenced almost immediately after this news. Zachary Schraider, operator of KDfans.com and BGfans.com, fan websites for both theme parks local to the Charlottesville area, used the permit applications to suggest that the coaster may be a Wing coaster, in which riders are seated on either side of the track. As of yet, no information on the mechanics of the coaster plans has been released.
