FREDERICKSBURG, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says a neighbor who shot one of the suspects during Tuesday’s mass shooting will not face charges, according to WWBT/29 News.

The sheriff’s office says the neighbor heard “rapid gunfire” in front of his home.

“He directed a family member to call 911. The citizen retrieved a weapon from his home. The citizen fired his weapon, striking a suspect.”

After another neighbor warned that there was more than one shooter the resident went back inside his home and waited for law enforcement.

“The citizen retreated back into his home and waited for law enforcement,” the sheriff’s office said. “Upon interviewing all witnesses, it was determined that the citizen will not be charged.”

The shooting resulted in three deaths and three injuries. The sheriff’s office said the incident stemmed from an illegal gun sale and robbery.
