CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Massive leadership upheaval continues at the UVA Health System. Five months after Dr. Craig Kent resigned as the CEO of UVA Health, the CEO of UVA Medical Center and the Dean of the medical school are also leaving Charlottesville.

Dean Dr. Melina Kibbe is apparently headed to Texas to become the president of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. The school announced this week its plan to hire Kibbe pending a required 21-day waiting period.

Kibbe began a five-year appointment as dean in 2021.

Kent and Kibbe were the subject of a university investigation after over 100 UVA medical school faculty signed a letter of no confidence, alleging the duo engaged in ethical wrongdoing.

Wendy Horton, the UVA Medical Center CEO, who was not implicated in the faculty’s accusations, is leaving to become the senior vice president and president of adult care services within the University of California, San Francisco’s health system, a source confirmed to WINA.

Horton was hired at UVA in 2020.
