Melvin Lavon Williams 71, aka “Chip” passed away on May 23, 2024, in his hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Melvin was born on December 19, 1952, to his loving mother, Shirley Cora Page. He was preceded in death by his mother; two brothers: William Woodson and Taft Howard Williams; two sisters: June Kingsley and Rheva Williams.
Melvin graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville VA and attended Benedict College in South Carolina. There he combined his love of children and education to obtain a teaching degree. He returned to Charlottesville and joined the Albemarle County Public School system as a teacher at Stone Robinson Elementary School where he remained for many years. He also spent his summers working for Albemarle County Parks & Rec.
Melvin was very social and made friends wherever he went. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching historical tv shows and documentaries. He was also a passionate sports fan who had a particular fondness for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates.
Melvin leaves behind his loving children, Cory (Serina) Williams of Sterling, VA and Stacey (Claude) Williams Toney of Charlottesville, VA; his brother Thomas Williams of Crozet, VA, the mother of his children, Jo Anne Williams and four grandchildren: Sienna, Ariana, Miles, and Noble; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
