CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In a macabre coincidence, a house at 1401 Melbourne Road in which a woman was found dead in a May 2023 fire that had extinguished itself, burned down Saturday night. Charlottesville Fire responded around 11:20 Saturday night to the fire across from Charlottesville High School and arrived to find the house fully involved. They found no one home and had the fire under control about a half-hour later. However, the house is a total loss. The cause is under investigation.
This is the same house where the morning of May 8, 2023, a woman was found dead surrounded by what The Daily Progress at the time described as “deeply sooted walls” near the front door and a faint smell of smoke. There were no other signs of fire. The Fire Department’s Kyle Ervin said at the time whatever fire there was ran out of oxygen to sustain it and it went out. A cigarette found at the time was considered to be a factor.
