Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend – Massie Lorenzo Jackson Jr. departed this life on January 8, 2024. He was born January 31, 1948, in Albemarle County to the late Massie Lorenzo Jackson Sr. and Beatrice Chapman Jackson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Chapman, Sr.
Massie matriculated through the Albemarle County School System and graduated from Albemarle High School in 1967. Massie was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He served in the Virginia National Guard for over 20 years, where he worked as a stenographer in the medical unit.
Massie was a devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cismont, VA from his youth. At Zion Hill he shared his musical gift, singing with the Church Choir, Inspirations, and Zionettes. Massie loved music. We will forever remember his smooth baritone voice singing his signature songs, He Touched Me, Somebody Is Bigger Than You and I, and May The Work I’ve Done Speak for Me. Massie traveled throughout the counties of Albemarle, Louisa, and Orange sharing the gospel in song. He was also a member of the Gospel Four of Charlottesville, VA for many years.
Massie worked in Albemarle County Public Schools as a Bus Driver for 26 years. Massie loved driving the school bus and took immense pride in his job.
Massie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Linda Jackson. Three children Shawn Swingler of California, Tianna Jackson Page of Baltimore, Maryland, and Hope Ross (Keenan) of Barboursville, Virginia. He leaves four grandchildren that he loved and adored: Amaya Page, Abigail Rogers, Ahmari Page, Andre Stephen, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family expresses many thanks to the Cedars Healthcare Center & Legacy Hospice Care, Charlottesville, VA, and many friends; for the love and support you showed to Massie during his illness. Now Massie is resting in the arms of Jesus; he would say to all of us, “You Better Believe It.”
