CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County Police have arrested a Maryland man in connection with a September sexual assault that occurred after the two people connected on a dating app.

Shane R. Driscoll, 32, of Baltimore, is charged with rape, abduction with the intent to defile and communicating a threat in writing, ACPD announced Thursday. He is being held, without bond, at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Driscoll used an alias – Wayne Washington – on the dating app, when he connected with the victim. According to ACPD, Driscoll traveled to the Charlottesville where he met the victim and was supposed to help the victim with the purchase of a vehicle. After a months-long investigation, ACPD was able to ascertain Washington’s real identity.

He was taken into custody last week, ACPD said.
