Mark Armistead Thomas, 62, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on March 6, 2024, at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Born on December 14, 1961, Mark was the son of James Robert Thomas, Jr. and Joan Pharr Thomas. He is preceded in death by his father, Bob; his mother, Joan; and his sister, Laurie Pharr Thomas.
Mark grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, and attended North Cross School. During high school, Mark participated in lacrosse, football, cross country, and wrestling. Following his graduation from North Cross, he pursued his education at the University of Virginia, graduating with a degree in Psychology and Business. Mark was an adventurous and driven person, ran marathons, completed an Ironman, and attended Flight School. Mark traveled across the globe, living in numerous countries, including Switzerland, Sweden, India, Nepal, and many others. He skied the Alps, hiked Mt. Everest, and enjoyed a variety of other adventures. Upon returning to Charlottesville, Mark completed his CFA charterholder designation and co-founded Old Dominion Capital Management, where he served as Co-Founder, Principal, and Managing Director for the remainder of his career. He served as a member of the Advisory Board for Schwab Institutional, a division of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. Mark was deeply passionate about his profession and devoted to providing for his family. One of his favorite places was New Orleans, Louisiana, where he visited annually with close friends, attended cooking school and expressed his love of food and cooking.
Mark is survived by his two sons, John “Jack” Armistead Thomas (28) and his wife Brooke, and William “Will” Cooke Thomas (26). He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Lynn Thomas Boehmcke, her husband, Burke, and their children, Robert Benjamin, Eleanor Armistead, Catherine Dearborn Boehmcke, and his Uncle, Dr. Edward Armistead Thomas, and his wife Tanya.
