CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – As of 8am, about 9000 area residents and businesses remained without power from Sunday’s winds where gusts in some areas hit over 70-miles-an-hour. Sustained, they were 30-to-40 in places in the afternoon. The winds brought down tree limbs and numerous trees in saturated soil. The biggest swath is scattered outages in Albemarle with 5100 waking up still without electricity in all the power companies serving the county. Nearly 700 were out in Nelson, 600 each in Augusta and Rockingham, 450 out in Louisa, and Buckingham each, 460 out in Culpeper, and 200 out each in Greene and Fluvanna counties.
Only REC has updated outage times saying “crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, but in some cases some outages may continue for multiple days”. Restoration times in most of the outages across all companies are “pending”.
