CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A woman is in critical condition after being shot in Albemarle County overnight, the apparent result of a domestic dispute. Police have detained a suspect.

Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue responded to reports of a shooting at the 800 block of Mallside Forest Court around 3:30 a.m., where they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound, according to an ACPD release. At 4:15 a.m., ACPD detained a suspect, someone known to the victim.

The victim was transported to UVA Health in critical condition.

Community members will see a large police presence in the 800 block of Mallside Forest Court while the investigation continues, ACPD announced.
