CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former Virginia men’s basketball standout Malcolm Brogdon will return to the program as a Strategic Advisor for the program head coach Ryan Odom announced on Tuesday.
“Malcolm will serve our program as a special advisor, bringing a wealth of knowledge, leadership and expertise from his successful nine-year NBA career and All-American career at Virginia.” Odom said in a release. He mentioned this is a newly created position within the program.
“I know this is a new role, but I see myself jumping right in and being a resource for the players, coaches, and the entire basketball program,” Brogdon said, “I’m excited to return to a place I consider home in what I’m sure will be a meaningful experience for myself and the program.”
At Virginia, Brogdon was named the 2016 ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and finished his career 9th on the all-time scoring list. His number 15 was retired by the program in 2017. After being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft, he was named the 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year. Brogdon announced his retirement from the NBA in 2025 after a nine-year career playing for the Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, and Washington Wizards. He also served as Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Executive Committee from 2019-25.
