CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A magnitude 2.8 earthquake was recorded near Richmond on Tuesday according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake struck at 5:29 p.m. local time, with its epicenter in Henrico County near the Wyndham area, at a depth of 7.2 kilometers. Residents in the vicinity reported feeling their houses shake and hearing a loud sound described as resembling an explosion. Despite these reports, no significant damage or injuries have been confirmed. Then around 2:50 Wednesday morning, another quake of 2.2 magnitude shook the area from that same location. These minor earthquakes occurred within the Central Virginia Seismic Zone, a region that occasionally experiences low-magnitude seismic activity. The USGS is monitoring the area for any additional seismic events.
