Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): With swimming fresh in the minds of Charlottesville sports fans after the performance of UVA Swimmers past and present at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, a local eagle scout candidate has organized a special swim meet for a noble cause at a very fortuitous time.

Western Albemarle High School freshman Tommy Rockwell has partnered with the Benjamin Hair Just Swim for Life Foundation to announce the first-ever “Splash Bash Swim Meet” for this Saturday, September 7th.  The BH-JSL Foundation is named in honor of another eagle scout, Ben Hair, who lost his life in a car accident, and works with its own swim club of participants from underserved areas of the Charlottesville-Albemarle community.   According to a release, the Meet will have three main objectives.

  • To give young athletes a chance to demonstrate their skills
  • Encourage the participants to carry on their athletic pursuit in competitive and non-competitive arenas
  • Increase visibility of and engagement in the BH-JSL program

The event will take place at the Fry Spring Beach Club pool beginning around 4:15 PM, with the Meet lasting until about 5:15 PM.   A dinner and awards ceremony will follow the Meet and will conclude around 6:00 PM.
