CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – WINA News has reached out to various entities about the cell service outage that AT&T has acknowledged… but that carriers such as Verizon and T-Mobil are experiencing that those companies have not mentioned. The Charlottesville/Albemarle/UVa Emergency Communications Center posts on social media they are “actively monitoring a widespread cellular outage that is reported to be impacting some wireless customers in our service area.” “If you are unable to dial or text 9-1-1 using your wireless phone, please try again with a different device or a landline.”
County and city leaders are still trying to ascertain the extent and impact of the outage. Anecdotal evidence suggests outages are sporadic… where people even on the same family plan of cell carriers are experiencing some with service and some family members without. AT&T reports some customers “experiencing wireless service interruptions” they’re “working diligently to restore”.
