Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – April marked Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) is leading the charge locally with events and outreach to support survivors. Executive Director Bass Wolf joined Morning News to highlight the organization’s vital work and promote ongoing community efforts. “We provide 24-hour response to survivors of sexual violence in our community,” said Wolf, noting that SARA serves five counties and the city of Charlottesville with advocacy, trauma therapy, and education programs.

One of the group’s major April initiatives was the Simcoe for SARA Campaign, held at several area breweries. “We have several events happening at local breweries,” Wolf said, emphasizing that the campaign will run until the specially brewed beer is gone. Participating breweries include Decipher Brewing, Högwaller Brewing, and Selvedge Brewing. The organization encourages the public to visit these businesses, learn more about the cause, and support SARA’s mission.

In addition to attending events, community members are encouraged to contribute in other ways. Donations can be made through https://www.saracville.org/, and volunteers are always needed, especially for SARA’s 24-hour crisis hotline. “If you are good at listening or have an empathetic ear, we’d love to train you,” Wolf added. Volunteer training begins May 26.
