Fluvanna, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A high-profile case involving Jennifer Emmy, an inmate at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, is gaining renewed attention as her attorneys claim that she is being denied critical medical care. Emmy, a former Colorado attorney, was transferred to Virginia’s Fluvanna facility despite having no connections to the state.
This case is described as having many different elements and allegations that are very troubling. Emmy’s attorney, John Kiyonaga, elaborated on her severe health issues, including an autoimmune disorder, and described a recent medical mishap where prison staff allegedly punctured her lung during a procedure meant to flush her cardiac port.
Kiyonaga further emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying, “Every day she continues in Fluvanna is an incrementally greater threat to her life.” He is calling on Virginia officials to intervene, fearing Emmy may not survive if her condition continues to be neglected.
The legal team has filed a petition in Colorado, challenging both the conditions of her confinement and the validity of her conviction. Despite these efforts, Virginia authorities have yet to respond.
