Delegate Amy Laufer Announces Re-election Campaign In HD 55
Today, Delegate Laufer announced her campaign for re-election to continue representing District 55, which includes parts of Albemarle, Nelson, Louisa and Fluvanna counties. Delegate Laufer is one of the few Democrats to represent a rural district that she flipped blue in 2023. Delegate Laufer released the following statement.
“Our legislature is at its best when all perspectives are represented. As a former teacher and Charlottesville School Board member, a mother who raised three children, someone who grew up working on their family’s dairy farm and later worked their way to becoming a first-generation college graduate – I’m immensely proud to be a voice for our community every single day.
Last year, I promised that I’d be ready to hit the ground running if our community sent me to the legislature and that’s exactly what I did. We passed legislation to protect same-sex and interracial marriage, a bipartisan gun violence prevention bill, and increased the availability of shared solar projects to meet our renewable energy goals. Two of my bills also passed that helped our indoor agriculture industry as well as providers of early childhood education.
Our work isn’t finished. I’m humbly asking you to send me back to Richmond to continue fighting for our community. We’ve got so much work to do in strengthening and investing in our public schools, finding ways to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, protecting our environment, creating more affordable housing, defending women’s rights, as well as the rights of our most vulnerable community members, and so much more. I look forward to meeting as many people as I can all across our district and I hope to earn your vote.”
As a result of her tireless work, Delegate Laufer has already earned the support of House Speaker Don Scott who stated, “Delegate Laufer is a tireless champion for healthcare, women’s rights, education, and the environment. She doesn’t just talk about making a difference—she puts in the work, traveling across the state to advocate for rural Virginians and fighting for the issues that matter most to our communities. Her dedication to the people of the 55th District and her contributions to our caucus are invaluable. I’m proud to endorse her re-election and look forward to continuing our partnership to keep Virginia moving forward.”
Senator Creigh Deeds has endorsed Delegate Laufer as well, “It’s been a pleasure working with Delegate Laufer. She is the voice that our community needs in Richmond. She brings the energy we need every single day making sure her constituents in every part of her district are heard and fought for. To her, every issue is local. I’m so proud to support her for re-election so that she can continue to be an ally in the House as we ensure that Central Virginia’s issues are always front and center.”
“I have worked with Delegate Laufer for many years, she has been a fierce advocate for our public schools, individuals with disabilities, women’s rights and the environment. She is committed to supporting our community and puts in the hard work. I heartily endorse her re-election campaign,” said Board of Supervisor Member, Diantha McKeel.
