CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville has to postpone its property tax and budget public hearings. Neil Williamson with the Free Enterprise Forum explains that state code requires this be done a certain time period ahead of the hearing, and Charlottesville Circuit Judge Claude Worrell ruled late Monday the city did not adequately do this. The ruling after city resident Jim Moore filed a request for an emergency injunction. The city contends they posted notification online and on social media, but Judge Worrell said there also has to be a physical posting at City Hall. Resultantly, the budget public hearing and vote, which was supposed to happen this coming Monday, is postponed until April 21.
