Joshua Reuben Sawyer, Jr. affectionately known as JR, 80 of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at UVA Hospital. JR, a native of Virginia was born on November 30, 1943 to Joshua “Reuben” Sawyer, Sr. and Virginia T. “Jenny” Sawyer. JR was a General Contractor in the area for over 50 years. He loved fishing and hunting with his grandson Dusty and his friends with “Hit and Miss” Hunt Club. He also just enjoyed being outdoors; it didn’t matter to him if he got anything or not.
JR leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Sharane Sawyer; his children Cyndi (Dennis) Shreve and Joshua R. “Joey” Sawyer, III; his grandchildren Dusty (Heather) Kirby, Kendra (Paul) Powell and Paul McClure; his great grand boys Kaleb Kirby Lettner, Everett and Zane Kirby. He also leaves behind his brothers, Bob (Linda) Sawyer and Phil (Debbie) Sawyer; his best friend and hunting buddy Dave (Wanda) Fields; and also a host of extended family and friends. A number too numerous to mention everyone.
JR loved his church, First Christian Church, and his church family. He especially loved his Lord and Savior who so gracefully guided him home. The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the 3 West and 3 West MICU at UVA Hospital for their love and care for JR during his stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in JR’s honor to the First Christian Church Benevolence Fund, https://www.fcckeswick.org/giving
