Josephine Morrison, 90, of Charlottesville was touched by an angel on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at her home. Born October 22, 1933, in Schuyler, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Naomi Mayo Morrison.

Josephine spent the better part of her life in Charlottesville. She was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School. She spent some time working in New York, then returned to Charlottesville to work as a nurse in various capacities for over 40 years at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Ms. Morrison was a very active member of Zion Union Baptist Church, in which she served in various ministries, namely the Women’s Fellowship Ministry and the Senior Usher’s Ministry. She was a life-long learner as evidenced by her regular attendance at Wednesday Night Bible Study Sessions. She was a staunch supporter of the youth ministry at Zion Union. She served in various capacities at worship services, ranging from Worship Leader to delivering a heartfelt welcome to guests. She also served as a delegate to numerous Baptist conventions. Most importantly, Ms. Morrison supported other ministries at Zion Union and beyond. It was commonplace to see her attending a function at another church.

Josephine was a member of the Hope Chapter Number 12 Order of the Eastern Star in which she served as an Associate Worthy Matron. Ms. Morrison, as everyone affectionately called her, lived on Page Street for over 60 years (she thought she was the mayor) and was a valuable asset to this community and all who knew her. She formed positive relationships with the young and old. She never hesitated to speak her mind and render quality advice to others.

She leaves to cherish her life one to daughter, Harriet R. Morrison (Beverly), and one grandson, Jonah Morrison (Sherri); sister, Louise Taylor; her prayer warrior niece, Olivia Finney; her road-dog niece, Brenda Harris; her sister-in-Christ, Molly Feggans and many other family members and friends.

Special thanks to the nurses and doctors of UVA and Frances Long, her caretaker, who made her last day a great day.
