John Louis Bell, Jr., 74, of Schuyler, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of February 6, 2024, born June 10, 1949, to his parents John L. Sr., and Talcumia Anderson Bell.
John was educated in Albemarle County and served in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War.
He was employed with Snows Garden Center for 41 years. As a Horticulturist there was not a question that he couldn’t answer about soil, plants, trees and gardening or simply maintaining the beauty of your yard. He hosted a wealth of knowledge in this arena, and took great pride in his yard which was always beautifully manicured. He enjoyed spending time outside, whether it was hunting, playing with his dogs or doting on his cars.
While indoors you would find him in front of the TV watching westerns or wrestling. John loved to shop and could dress up with the best of them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Teresa Bell Johnson. He is survived by his wife Denise of 20 years; his son Mark Hill (Nicole); his daughter, Hope Page Ross (Keenan); his stepson, Samuel Hawkins, II (Shelley); his granddaughters Denae, Amaya, Renee, Zoey and Anna; Great granddaughters, Autumn and Rori; his sisters, Eunice Dyer, Olive Wood and Mary Murrill (Cartier); his brothers, George and Owen Bell; an aunt, Jirlean Laird of Defunik, Springs Fl; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family in Florida; brother-In-law, Rev. Elton (Rose) Starks; Sisters-In-law, Gwen (James) Franklin, Venise (Greg) Brown, Dawn (Alonzo) Johnson, and Sharon (Greg) Turner.
A funeral service was held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel. The interment was held at Culpeper National Cemetery on Friday, February 16th at 12:00 p.m., noon.
