CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) — James Monroe’s Highland will host a free concert on the 4th of July, with $10 general admission for museum visitors.

The Staunton-based Heifetz International Music Institute will provide patriotic music to celebrate America’s Independance. Performers will be the youth and young adults participating in this year’s Heifetz Summer Program.

“We are pleased to welcome the community to the Highland Independence Day concert and celebration,” said Highland Executive Director, Sara Bon-Harper. “We invite everyone to come to Highland and enjoy the talented young musicians from the Heifetz International Summer Program for an afternoon of inspiring performances.”

The Highland Independence Day concert is appropriate for visitors of all ages and will take place under the ceiling fans in the shade of the covered Hilltop Pavilion. Picnics and frolicking on the grass around the Pavilion are encouraged. The event is free and open to the public.

Independence Day is especially meaningful at Highland. James Monroe fought in the American Revolution, where he served under George Washington and formed a commitment to American democracy that endured for his lengthy career in public service. After two terms as U.S. President, James Monroe died on July 4, 1831, five years after the simultaneous deaths of Jefferson and John Adams.

Concert admission is free. General admission for museum visitors is $10 per person, with children six and under free. Visit https://highland.org/tickets to purchase tickets.
