James (Jim) William Anderson, 80, of Winchester, Virginia, was born in Washington, D.C. on January 10, 1944. Jim died on January 10, 2024, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Jim spent much of his childhood years on the family farm in Virginia. After graduating high school and a stint in the Army, he worked for the Department of the Navy as an estimator/planner until taking early retirement. He then turned to working as an HVAC technician with several companies. He married Carol Jean McDonald in June 1970, with whom he had two children. The family moved to Leesburg, VA in the early 70s and lived there until a move to Elizabethtown, KY in 2005. Jim returned to Virginia in 2019 following Carol’s death in 2018.
Jim was filled with curiosity and had numerous hobbies. Among these included leather working, furniture reupholstering, martial arts, and in his later years, painting. He also loved to serve others, whether as a volunteer with the rescue squad in Leesburg or through Stephen ministry to those in hospice. He always had a story to share or a joke to tell. He was also active in many churches over the years as his faith in Jesus Christ was an important part of his life.
Jim is survived by his son Jon (wife Rachel); daughter Shannon; granddaughters, Anne Michal Carter (husband Grant), Elizabeth Steel (husband Ryan), Emma Anderson, Mallory Anderson; grandsons, Jack Anderson and Creed Anderson; sister, Theresa L. Kauffman (husband Storm), brother Thomas M. Love (wife Carmen), brother Gerald A. Love (wife Ann), brother Richard Anderson, brother David Anderson; sister-in-law Mary Frances Love; and numerous nieces and nephews.
