James Edward Cobbs, Jr. passed unexpectedly on October 2, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1962 in Charlottesville, VA to Ellen B. Cobbs and the late James Edward Cobbs, Sr.
James is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Gloria, and by his beloved daughter, Kristin Cobbs (David Howlett). He is also survived by his siblings: Terry Cobbs (Brian Gevry) and Von Cobbs (Scarlett); by his nieces and nephews: Shauna, Lauren, Brandon, Brittiny, Kelsey, Emily, and Harper; and by his precious Chihuahua, Chico. Other special surviving family members include Jerry Peters (Diane), Wendy Williams, Eric Brittain, Paul Peters, and Jesse Aielli. He was a treasure to his family and friends and will be extraordinarily missed.
An avid fan of dirt track racing and motocross, James loved attending races at local tracks in and around Virginia, especially with his brother. For decades, he setup shop every weekend at the racetrack and displayed his artistic talent for drawing cars, attracting new friends and fans who commissioned drawings.
James will be remembered for his ability to make friends everywhere he went; his witty sense of humor and love of joke-telling; his passion for music, sports, and nature; and his enthusiasm for collecting die-cast models and building model farm scenes. He had an extremely strong work ethic and was cherished by his colleagues and by the residents at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in James’ memory.
