GLASGOW (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia State Police’s suburban Richmond-based Med Flight 1 helicopter has rescued a second injured hiker in Blue Ridge Mountain backcountry for the second straight day. Around 2:45 Tuesday afternoon, the chopper flew 93 nautical miles from Chesterfield County to the Devil’s Marble Yard in Rockbridge County to rescue a female hiker. That’s less than 24 hours after rescuing a 67-year old female hiker off Old Rag Mountain in Madison County. This patient was flown to a command post for evaluation, and then was flown to the Richmond area where she lives after she was determined to be stable so she could get hospital treatment there.
Not only was it the 2nd rescue within 24 hours but happened on the day of the 41st anniversary of Med Flight’s creation.
