ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA – On Thursday, October 24, 2024, at approximately 7 pm, Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving pedestrians on Stony Point Road in the area of Riverside Shops Way.

Six pedestrians were attempting to cross Stony Point Road when a sedan traveling south struck four of the pedestrians—a 38-year-old woman, 3-year-old child, 1.5-year-old child, and a 4-month-old child. The two other pedestrians, both juveniles, were not struck by the vehicle and did not require medical attention. The driver of the sedan remained on scene and was uninjured in the crash.

All of the children struck were transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center in life-threatening condition. The 38-year-old woman was also transported to UVA in serious condition. The 4-month-old succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

The crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.
