CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A targeted law enforcement operation in the Prospect neighborhood led to the recovery of illegal firearm modifications, including equipment capable of converting handguns into fully automatic weapons. According to Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) officials, detectives seized several illegal firearm components, commonly known as “Glock switches,” as well as multiple suppressors, extended magazines, firearms, marijuana, and U.S. currency.

During the operation, officers arrested Clifton Long, who faces numerous felony charges-possession with intent to distribute marijuana (18.2-248.1), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (18.2-308.2), and the manufacture/importation of trigger activators (18.2-308.5:1).

“These illegal modifications significantly increase the lethality of firearms, making them a serious threat to public safety,” said Chief Mike Kochis of the Charlottesville Police Department. “Our team’s hard work not only removed dangerous items from circulation but also sends a clear message: We will continue to aggressively pursue those who jeopardize the safety and security of our community.”
