STAUNTON, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Residents of Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro this coming Saturday are invited to bring household hazardous waste materials to the City of Waynesboro facilities shop at 900 Essex Ave for proper disposal and recycling. Saturday 8:30am-to-noon is the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day. A release says the following products will be accepted on Household Hazardous Waste Day:
CFL & fluorescent bulbs, gasoline, polyurethane, oil-based paints & stains, herbicides, pesticides, solvents: acidic and basic, propane/oxygen/helium tanks, and mercury devices
The landfill will accept used oil, antifreeze, dried latex paint, and lead acid batteries any time of year. Latex or water-based paints may be disposed of through normal household waste disposal when dried to a solid state. Latex paint is not hazardous. The following products will NOT be accepted:
• Hazardous materials from businesses [This event is for households only, per EPA and DEQ regulations.]
• Unknown or unlabeled containers
• Electronics, televisions, water-based paint, household batteries, vehicle tires – these items can be disposed of at the Augusta Regional Landfill.
• Medications will not be accepted – please see the medical disposal page on our website for more information.
The following items can be recycled for free at the landfill: aluminum, glass, metal, paper, cardboard, motor oil, diesel fuel, kerosene, hydraulic oil, lamp oil, transmission fluid.

Augusta County’s environmental management office, in collaboration with the Augusta County Regional Landfill, typically hold two household waste clean-up days per year, one in the fall for hazardous materials and another in the spring for large items (such as tires and refrigerators).
