CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia head football coach Tony Elliott in the Hoos’ ACC football media day spotlight in Charlotte talked about building a model program. One of the players with him, defensive lineman Chico Bennett talked about winning saying he knows of no one “who’s a good loser”. He says Coach Elliott talks about games being a difference of 4-to-6 plays going a different way as a difference between winning and losing games. Bennett says they’ve learned it’s less about what the other teams are doing, and more about what they’re doing.
Elliott says there’s a three-pronged approach to a model program which are academic, social, and on the field performance. The Hoos were a dismal 3-and-9 last season and Elliott said things are going well on the academic side with record achievement last year. Then there’s the social side where players have been learning how to act in a professional world, and work throughout the community. He’s confident things will be achieved on the field next.
Preseason camp starts July 31 as they work toward their August 31 season opener against Richmond at Scott Stadium.
