CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A 14-year-old juvenile from Harrisonburg has been charged for making a hoax bomb threat against Westwood Hills Elementary School just days after a gunman wounded a staff member and took his own life at the school on Sept. 2, the Waynesboro Police Department announced on social media Friday.

WPD and Waynesboro Public Schools were alerted of the threat “during the overnight hours Sept. 5,” according to their Sept. 8 announcement of the threat.

The juvenile suspect has been charged with one misdemeanor count of allegedly making a false bomb threat. The charge is classified as a misdemeanor due to the offender’s age.

That announcement also said a suspect has already been located that day, with the threat determined to be false and charges “likely pending.” The Harrisonburg Police Department assisted in the search.

WPD also said in its Friday announcement the investigation into the Sept. 2 incident is still ongoing, with WPD cooperating with “our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners.”
