Harriet Bruffey Hatfield, 90, of Charlottesville died on June 4, 2024, at UVA Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born May 7, 1934, in Charlottesville Va., she was the daughter of Carroll W. and Hope C. Bruffey. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; Monte M. Hatfield, husband of 40 years; stepdaughter Lori Weaver, son-in-law Marvin Weaver and son-in-law Bob Greep.

Harriet was a loving mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved life and family. As a single mother, Harriet, raised her two children making sure they were successful in school and prepared for adult life.

During the 1970’s, Harriet was a leading member of Parents Without Partners. As President, she welcomed new members and was always there to help them through the trauma and parenting following a divorce. She also made friendships that lasted throughout the rest of her life. One of the friendships was Monte Hatfield, who became the love of her life.

When Harriet and Monte married, she welcomed her stepchildren into her house and her life. Everyone was family and she loved all of us. Harriet and Monte traveled and loved the adventure of new places. They were very active with the square dance group in Charlottesville and traveled to other cities and states to participate in square dance celebrations.
