Grace Fielding Mahone died peacefully among family November 22, 2024 at Westminister Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville, VA. She was 97.

Born August 17, 1927, in Darlington, Maryland, she was the daughter of William Clarence and Emma Lee Fielding. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband David, her brothers Bill and Gene, a daughter Janet, her grandson Scott, and her nephew Chuck.

She is survived by a daughter Sue Mahone Hildebrand and her husband Richard, and sons Steve Mahone and his wife Susan, Tom Mahone and his wife Alice, and Philip Mahone and his wife Penny, all of Charlottesville, VA.

She is also survived by her grandchildren; David Stebbins and his wife Mary Frances of Charlottesville, Steve C. Mahone of Alexandria, VA, Alex Mahone and his wife Maria, Drew Mahone and his wife Dhwani, Emma Mahone, and Tyler Mahone, all of Charlottesville. She is survived by five great grandchildren: Kayleigh and Keller Stebbins, Benny and Lola Mahone, and Gordon Mahone, and her brother Gene’s son, John Fielding, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Grace attended James Madison University earning an associate’s degree in business. She enjoyed a thirty- year career in public service, most recently in the Office of Hearings and Appeals, a division of the Social Security Administration.

Following her retirement in 1991, Grace was a frequent volunteer at Christ Episcopal Church. She enjoyed extensive national and international travel with her husband David, especially remembering their trip to the Holy Land with the Christ Church group. She also loved playing bridge with her friends, and was a voracious reader. She and her husband moved to Westminister Canterbury in 2006 where she continued her volunteer work by serving on numerous committees. She enjoyed many happy years there with family and friends.

She will most be remembered by her family for her sweet and gentle spirit, her kindness, her patience and generosity, and her unconditional love.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Charlottesville, VA, or Westminister Canterbury of the Blue Ridge Foundation, in Grace’s memory. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge for their steadfast, loving and compassionate care.
