RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Governor Glenn Youngkin donated blood at the American Red Cross in Richmond early Saturday morning to raise awareness of the critical need for blood donations in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which has disrupted numerous blood drives across the state.

The event, held at the American Red Cross facility on Emerywood Parkway, saw the Governor encourage Virginians to step up and help replenish blood supplies, which are vital for hospitals and emergency services, especially during disaster recovery efforts. Many scheduled blood drives were canceled due to storm damage and unsafe travel conditions, leading to a significant dip in donations.

The American Red Cross has expressed concern over the low number of donors, particularly with the recovery efforts placing extra strain on local medical facilities.
