Government phone lines are down in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene. All localities say that 911 calls do not appear to be affected. It is not known when services will be restored, but staffers are working to find the problem.

Below are official notices of all four.

CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE 

The City of Charlottesville is experiencing phone outages impacting all City desk and mobile phones. We will advise once this issue has been resolved. We do not have a timeline for restoring service at this time.

Please call 911 in case of emergency as always.

Please also call 911 to reach Utilities Dispatch at any time during this outage in the case of a utility emergency. If you call 911 for a utility emergency, your call will be rerouted to our Utilities Dispatch so we can react appropriately.

If you smell gas, have utility line damage, or have any other utility emergency, please call 911 immediately.

Albemarle County is experiencing a phone outage at County facilities, including the McIntire and 5th Street office buildings. There is no anticipated timeline for restoring service, but staff is actively working to restore full functionality.

The buildings remain open to the public during normal business hours. Online services remain operational, and community members may also email departments directly for assistance during this time.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY

Emergency services remain in operation. However, non-emergency phone lines are also impacted. If you are unable to reach the non-emergency phone line, please call 9-1-1 for assistance.

Some Verizon Wireless customers have also reported issues reaching 9-1-1. If your call does not go through, try calling from a different carrier or text 9-1-1. The Emergency Communications Center may attempt to call you back—this return call may appear as an unknown number, but please answer.

FLUVANNA COUNTY

BrightSpeed is reporting phone issues in the area effecting the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office landline phones. We have activated backup wireless phones should you need to reach our agency, those numbers are provided below.
