RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Governor Youngkin visited the state emergency operations center under State Police Headquarters outside of Richmond, with a FEMA leader in tow, and they’re still assessing Helene’s damage price tag in Virginia. He says there’s a continuing concern in the flooded New River Valley where the water’s still angry with continuing rain this week, so he’s urging people in those counties to go to safety.
He says Virginia’s death toll is two, 70 water rescues have been performed, and there are still some people isolated. The Governor said getting to some is a more difficult task, prolonged by detours a half-hour to an hour around bridges that are out. Along with updating the Commonwealth, he thanked the workers who’ve been working the EOC 24-7 the past several days.
