CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – England’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit Virginia on Thursday, and Gov. Abigail Spanberger will be on hand in Front Royal to greet the royals, the governor’s office announced.
The National Park Service announced earlier this week that the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center and an adjacent stretch of Skyline Drive would be closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday “to provide security during a dignitary visit and ensure public health and safety.”
The “closure dates and times may be adjusted as necessary based on the needs of the United States Secret Service,” the NPS release stated.
The town of Front Royal announced a parade as part of its celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary beginning at 10 a.m. on Main St.
“Part of the festivities will include a very brief parade down Main Street, attended by His Majesty King Charles III & Her Majesty Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom,” according to a posting on the town’s website. “While there is no guarantee spectators will physically view the special guests, this is an historic opportunity to be a part of Their Majesties’ first visit to the United States as King & Queen.”
The rest of the King and Queen’s itinerary is unclear. This has been the first British state visit to the U.S. since Queen Elizabeth II came in 2007.
Wednesday, the royals made a day trip to New York City, visiting the Sept. 11 memorial. On Tuesday, King Charles addressed a joint session of Congress.
They arrived on Monday in Washington D.C. and spend the day visiting with President Trump at the White House.
