CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Gordonsville man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Oct 2023 shooting death of Danny Hall will serve a decade in prison. Charlottesville Circuit Court Judge Richard E. Moore announced the 10-year active sentence during a hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Reginald E. Lindsay had originally been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in Hall’s death, but prosecutors agreed to the lesser plea after witnesses to the crime refused to cooperate with investigators.

“This case highlights the difficulty of successfully investigating and prosecuting crimes of violence without community cooperation,” Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania said after Lindsay entered a guilty plea to the reduced manslaughter charge on May 21. He noted that a second-degree murder conviction carries the possibility of life in prison.

Hall was fatally shot in the 300 block of E. Market Street in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, 2023. His death was one of six homicides in the city in 2023. All six cases were resolved with convictions and active prison sentences, according to a statement from Platania after the sentencing. Lindsay’s sentencing is the final of the 2023 cases to be resolved.

“The sentencings are a painful reminder of the life altering consequences for those who choose to commit an act of violence with a firearm and the victims that they leave behind,” Platania said. “As Danny’s wife said during her victim impact testimony, ‘I hate that we are killing each other.’”
